SOPHYA project at Expo 2020 Dubai
17.11.2021

The SOPHYA Project has analysed and studied the correlations between planing powerboat performance and sea state through CFD simulations, full-scale models and testing, and subsequent hull optimisation with tank testing. The CFD simulations were validated with experimental data, and the final result led to the development of a toolkit for designing safer, more comfortable and energy efficient boats.

SOPHYA was developed by a partnership comprising Monte Carlo Yachts, Micad, the Scuola Superiore di Sudi Avanzati - SISSA and the University of Trieste, under the coordination of mareFVG, which dedicates this success of regional technological innovation to Prof. Giorgio Contento, scientific head of the project as well as professor of naval architecture and founder of the HyMOLab (Hydrodynamics and MetOcean Laboratory) at the University of Trieste, who died prematurely.
